Everyone loves deals, we are forever hunting to make the most out of our purchases. We pride ourselves on getting the best deals and if we can club coupons and get upto 50% off we feel like kings.

Truly customer is the King/Queen here.

None of us I believe is above the redeem coupon culture.

Today I ordered mithai for Diwali and since I was indisposed, I got Swiggy Genie to do the pick-up and drop.

Normally when we order food there is an option for adding the tip for the delivery partner.

I missed that Swiggy genie did not have such an option (or I missed it completely, since I was ordering for the very first time).

Due to the Covid situation we ask our parcels to be left at the basket provided outside the door.

I checked through my peephole and the Swiggy person left the sweets as per instructions in the basket.

I had kept some sweets for him (it’s a thing with us during Diwali, no one who comes to our door goes without eating a sweet or two).

After he had left and I went outside to collect my delivery I realized Swiggy genie had not given me any option to tip that saviour who went out in the hot afternoon sun, braving virus and all and got me my desired sweets.

It also got me thinking I had got the delivery at merely 37.50 rupees after applying a coupon (initial fees was 75 rupees).

I am wondering how it is even possible for a person to make any money in 37.50 rupees.

Even if the person took a bus, he would spend minimum 13 to 15 rupees to just get here from the collection point.

If the delivery person has got only 37.50 rupees, he would hardly make 12 to 14 rupees on that delivery and if he makes 10 such deliveries he will earn a paltry sum of 140 to 200 rupees a day.

And if I do not apply the coupon and say he gets 75 rupees, he will make maybe 50 rupees on my delivery and 10 such deliveries will fetch him 500 rupees a day.

I checked with Swiggy about my query. And was saddened to know that my coupon had cut his fees in half.

I have no way of contacting this man who worked so hard for such little money. May he be blessed with abundance wherever he is.

By no means am I happy with my coupon lagao paise bacho attitude.

I will also urge everyone to kindly consider how our coupons affect someone else’s livelihood.

We all circulate emotional ads about bringing a smile to someone, lighting up someone’s life. I believe we can do small changes like this and make a difference in someone’s life.

35 rupees savings on my coupon may mean something for me but it might make a humungous difference in someone else’s life.

So please #Couponmatlago

Women have been believed to have wells of strength and reserve but in difficult times there have been so many instances of women who have drawn in so deep from these wells and filled in the pots of those in need that it is applaudable.

We have one such woman, mother of two (one being only a couple of months old) a wife,  a daughter in law who lives with her in-laws and yet manages to not only take care of the home, making sure everyone is fed on time, the kids are taken care of and yet assists her husband in packing the orders they have been flooded with.

Bhavi (3)

Some of us were not even aware of the business the family is in. But the support this family has extended to the 250 odd residents in the times of lockdown and quarantine has been humongous.

Initially they offered whatever they stocked regularly but as the demands started increasing Jay has been sourcing more and more items as per the requirement of the residents.

Bhavi (1)

The couple has hardly said no to anyone.

In times like these where the much-hyped Amazon had not delivered a single essential or crucial item, Big Basket has not kept any slot for our deliveries we have largely come to depend upon Bhavisha and Jay.

In fact, I doubt I would (and a few more residents would) now want to venture outside or order from online sites post the lockdown.

Why? Because we have been spoiled for choices and excellent delivery mechanism with this dynamic duo.

Bhavi (2)

And the love they are getting is return, well here are a few testimonials, I doubt any website could gather this much appreciation in such a short time.

Here are a few testimonials she’s received in 2 weeks:

U guys are doing your best and exceeding our expectations

Bhavisha n jay thanks a ton for all ur great help👍🏻👍🏻really appreciated thanks again guys🙏🏻👍🏻

Bhavisha & Jay appreciate your efforts, Thanks so much❤🙏

Seconding and thirding what others have said above! Bhavisha has been exceptionally kind and supportive, from addressing my queries at odd hours to going the extra mile to get me something I wanted urgently, I could go on and on…and all this with the utmost patience and a smile on her face. Lots of love and a big, heartfelt thanks, Bhavisha! ❤

True that, can’t imagine how life would have been for me without Bhavisha at this time! Heartfelt thank you ❤❤

Yes, we know. We’ll send you all the bills by tonight. Payment isn’t an issue at the moment. Supplying you the groceries is more important. Hence we insist on supplying first and payment later. One person doing the packing delivering and making bills. Please cooperate if you get the bills a little later at times🙏🙈😅

The rice and pulses bought from Bhavisha are much superior in quality than wherever I have been buying from.

Agreed.. even the wheat flour / Bajri flour or any such flours quality is such real stunner.. the flours shelf life says it all.. current Wheat Flour is giving some amazing fluffy and soft Rotis! ❤

The spices that she gets are so super fresh and just so amazing to cook with

Yup not only has Bhavisha and her husband been an amazing support to procure food, even last min requests at times… But every item on the list is of best quality… From flours, to essentials…

Thank you so much guys… Highly appreciate ur efforts

Great efforts Bhavisha n Jay Seeing quality n service I will love to order after  lock down also

If not possible  every week once in a 15 days or so

I was just mentioning the same to my husband.. 🙂 that if Bhavisha and Jay would extend their service after lock down too, it will be very nice for monthly groceries..

We are humbled by the response that we have got here by all. We will surely find a way and continue to deliver post lockdown as well. 🙏🙂

we r lucky ambrosians to hv such a helping people like u in this kind of tough situation..god bless u..👍💐

There has always been a long debate on how the work culture should change worldwide.

The pandemic situation we currently are in has gone ahead and changed everything, right from the perspectives about work to job roles and titles to fluidity in role management.

This has not only resulted in the way work is happening it has also brought home a thought process and few dynamic solutions that fit the skewed work culture that is here to stay, possibly for a very long time.

One of the myths that the current working situation has busted is that work from home is not effective or fruitful enough. Along with it goes the thought that women who work from home are not serious about their careers or do not put in the required amount of efforts.

Right now as we know especially in India, working women who largely depended upon house helps and maids while they spends hours perfecting the pitch/ marketing/ sales presentations, prepare sales reports and attend to all office related calls without thinking twice because there is someone who had their back.

They are still doing all of the above while also preparing meals for the family and doing laundry and cleaning their homes and managing their time and work life balance with great panache.

Working from home

So yes, we are capable of multi-tasking and so are the men, basically everyone can rise to the occasion if the occasion presents itself.

After the lockdown opens and we can commute to work there will be social distancing that will prevent us from huddling over the presentations, it will require some of us to be remotely present for meetings and yet be empathetic enough about what is being discussed.

Then there are those who might be bereft of travelling solutions for an exceedingly long time.

In places like Mumbai where people were already travelling what might seem like counties the situation was already difficult and now may seem ominously grim especially the late night commute with even lesser people on the roads or public transport may lead to safety issues as well.

While I am sure the Human Resources in all companies is working towards policies that will finally map the tangible result oriented work that is put in and not just the number of hours logged in, this will also cull the so called “in-office” hours that have very little results to show for.

Going forward this should also open certain avenues of career that allow one to work from the safety of one’s location unless required to travel for a really relevant event.

A new wave of conscious consumers is sweeping the world, the resources that are scarce are now a fact that most of us cannot ignore.

Also, the current generation believes in sharing and thus showing that they care in a big way.

The same generation is also time conscious and believes in quick turn around time. Gone are the days when you bought something online and were willing to wait for it.

Today people are already talking about same day delivery if the seller is in the same city as theirs.

This puts immense pressure on Ecommerce Retailers because some of the players are still grappling with the challenges of selling online and trying to upgrade their systems for this huge shift in business. Their traditional mode of doing business is seeing a sea change. Some of these retailers have been selling in the age-old retailing manner and are yet to appreciate the new business or are too wary of including the change.  Others have been smart enough to introduce new talent and have incorporated new age thinking into the business. Either ways it is overwhelming to cater to the demands that most ecommerce platforms are now placing on the retailers.

Earlier the distribution model was a process and included various channels that can be bypassed today, so can the delivery time be reduced based on the new model?

Shared mobility is a term that is being associated with people sharing transport and Uber and Ola have revolutionized the way we travel.

So, what is the role of the same shared mobility in logistics.

Micro-hub & Shared Mobility: Like a common parking lot, a micro hub can be a small place where the packages for a zone arrive for last mile delivery. These micro-hubs cater to multiple logistics / transport companies. The concept itself is not very new in India where local state transport buses have been following a raw model of the same for years.

Retailers can take advantage of these solutions to reduce delivery time. Courier companies can reduce the cost and increase the number of deliveries per day without straining their network.

Shared infrastructure like this has its challenges and down sides as well. Some of them are administrative and responsibility related. There will be norms that need to be set and qualitative as well as quantitative analysis that will have to prove the utility of such hubs.

Currently in our own industry we have stakeholders that are not comfortable with the idea of sharing the same storage space or sharing the same vehicle with other players in their business. This puts a tremendous pressure for delivering as minimum as 2 to 4 packages in day. Consolidation, co-loading or sharing a hub could lead to efficient route planning and reduce the axle load, transit time for all parties involved at the same time cutting down on carbon emissions besides other costs.

But these hubs are not very far in the future for the industry that is striving hard to cut down on manpower, time, fuel, storage and build sustainable solutions that are beneficial to all the stakeholders.

With all the regulatory processes in place shared mobility is a win win solution one that will pose its share of challenges but will benefit everyone in the long run especially looking at how the realty rates are soaring, and the world is looking at shared mobility in a new light.

What is office to you, is it the work desk, the presentations, the meetings, networking or is it something beyond that?

For most of us who have been working especially in the corporate environment it is something that we have not given much thought to. We go to work, make friends, rivals, we get bogged down, sometimes we just breeze through, join work, leave work, keep in touch, fall out of touch but we never think of that one thing that connects us (at least at work)

That one thing around which all conversations take place, the one inconspicuous machine that absorbs all the vibes, good & bad. That one corner where the coffee machine sits calmly churning cup after cup of hot coffee and observes a range of emotions.

It sees friends share camaraderie over a cup, rivals summing each other up, it sees the intern come there broodingly wondering what’s in store for him, the go-getter smirk, the come through executive pinning his hopes, the on-my-way out employee shake his head and advise, nothing is going to change here. It sees a lot and silently stands sentry to their thoughts, guards all the secrets and provides them comfort.

I was pretty excited to be back in office after a long break in my career. And I made sure I did not have my coffee at my desk (only the ones who want to show that they are busy all day – even during lunch do that). I found my partner, my reverse image, she was the calm to my wild, the ground to my flights (of fancy), the sense to my spirit, in short, she kept my feet firmly on the ground while letting me soar.

We would ping each other for the much-needed breaks for coffee, we spent time talking contemplating, guessing, planning and weaving dreams along with our delicate threads of friendship together.

I looked forward to this ritual. It was a pause in the world of chaos, a pause that allowed us to shed the cloaks of formality and let us be the people we were.

And then she left, she moved on and left me holding two cups of coffee for I was used to doing that.

I have moved on too, in life, at work. We all come to terms with people exiting that space in our life. But we did not end it there. We still meet for coffee albeit at a different place.

I still hang out at the coffee machine sometime with other colleagues, those stolen moments are special. They make my coming to work something to look forward to.

I miss my partner but work goes on, life goes on and coffee it still smells so good.

The Swiss watch industry which has had a rough time since last couple of years with the younger generation opting out on buying other luxury goods other than a luxury watch has to probably do without its annual Basel World Watch Fair the coming year.

The downward trend in the industry began in 2015 and every year there are fewer people visiting Baselworld,  Mecca for watch business and admirers alike.

With the launch of Apple’s Smartwatch and other phone companies following suit, the luxury watch industry has been lagging in customer interest.

Watchmakers have started to try strategies.like limiting their production and marketing their timepieces as the works of craftsmen, hiring young celebrities as brand ambassadors, developing smartwatches to combat the waning market  in bid to revive the interest

The possibility of Baselworld being held in 2019 now looks like a slim chance with  Swatch Group, the fair’s biggest client, with 17 brands deciding not to participate.

DSC00171

Baselworld 2018 was already much smaller than previous years

Following the news of the Swatch groups pullout from the fair comes the resignation of René Kamm CEO for nearly 20 years at the company MCH Group, operator of the Baselworld watch fair.

“The time has come for a change” say René Kamm.

“We don’t need a trade fair. We might do something more creative with other partners that are out there” says Nick Hayek, Swatch Group CEO who is looking for more dynamic ways to connect with partners.

With the upheaval that the Swiss watch industry is facing this comes and a shock to the entire world.

We are hoping though to see the revival in probably a new avatar in another space.

So it is but a logical place to burst upon with a boutique for a luxury watch.

Officine Panerai plans to open its third boutique in India in Palladium where it hopes to catch the crowd that is looking for global brands in their own city.

Palladium 2

Currently Panerai is present in Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad through multi-store partners and has a Boutique in The Chanakya in New Delhi and The Taj Mahal & Palace Hotel in Mumbai.

According to Milvin George, Managing Director, Panerai Middle East and India the luxury market in India is on a growth path and as more international brands are entering the country Panerai does not want to lose its share of business.

By having another boutique they get to showcase a colossal variety of the watches they look to sell in the Indian Market.

For all the watch enthusiasts this will be definitely a place to look forward to.

Wishing Panerai all the success in the country.

So what makes Tonique unique?

Firstly, it’s the largest liquor store in India, sprawled over 15,000 sq. ft. and housing more than 500 brands of wines and spirits.

IMG_8377

It is not just a store, it is an experience as quoted by Anith Reddy, its managing director.

In a state that loves its liquor, the store is like a dream come true for the spirit lovers. Open for little over a year now the store has had amazing footfalls. Mostly women was my observation, seconded by the staff.

IMG_8397

The sharp sales people do not tag behind you but notice very well what you browse through and very subtly nudge you if you look stuck.

Knowing Anith Reddy who has a knack for doing things that others would not even dare to dream about I was not surprised by the effort and thoughtfulness that has gone into his pet project. But the man is a continuous dreamer and is forever striving to do things bigger and better than anyone else.

IMG_8383.

IMG_8395IMG_8398copyIMG_8402IMG_8404

Next on cards is a huge wine tasting room with sommeliers from across the world sharing their knowledge.

“Most women head to the first floor, the selfie spot,” says Anith, pointing to a huge faux bottle of Moet & Chandon inside an ice tub. Though I was totally tired from my journey and washed out from a day of running around I could not resist a click myself.

IMG_8390

To those who would crinkle up their noses at the very mention of spirits, I recommend a dekko for you will find some soft drinks, sodas, munchies and a variety of chocolates too.

I spent a good amount of time browsing through because the whole ambience is that of a relaxed luxury shopping destination, I wonder who wouldn’t want to spend time there to lift their spirits.

On Sunday, December 17, 2017 Mumbai woke up to the thundering revving of 24 Ferrari cars ready to paint the town red (mostly).

A leisure drive that set the heart of Mumbai racing was organised by Ferrari & Navnit Motors, Ferrari’s dealership in Mumbai and Hublot was one of the brand partners.
Hublot Watches is also associated with Ferrari Cars and has special Ferrari Inspired watches.

A cheering crowd flagged off the drive from Navnit Motors in Bandra-Kurla Complex, heading to Nariman point NCPA where there was a pit stop, via the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and concluded at the Festival Square in High Street Phoenix in Lower Parel, where an even more enthusiastic crowd was present to welcome the cars. The cars were displayed there for the remainder of the day.

These cars were brought from the customers places from different parts of India to Mumbai and the owners themselves droves their cars in the parade on Sunday.

The drive is one part of Ferrari’s celebrations of the 70th anniversary which was kicked off in March in September, in Maranello, Italy.

Lot of hearts revved for the Ferraris and people across all generations enjoyed taking selfies and pictures with the beauties.

Later that evening a private dinner was held for the owners and select invitees, where Gautam Singhania relived fond memories of his win in 2015.

Hublot presented a wall clock to Navnit Motors which will hopefully find a place in the Ferrari showroom at BKC.

Love the nip in the air? The smell of roasted corn, mouth-watering samosas, cups of garam chai, smooth hot chocolate?

Well we are not at our brightest in this season which makes you hit the snooze button more often than you think, and the morning runs suffer.

Make sure that your skin doesn’t. Use simple tricks to keep your glow on even in the driest of weathers.

Facial Care: Your face lights up someone’s world, so let the lights not dim in this drab weather.

  • Cleanse carefully, avoid washing your face too often and try using cold milk with cotton as one of the cleansing alternative.
  • Scrub as little as possible with milder scrubs
  • Do not forget to tone your skin as it tends to secrete more oil in winters to combat dryness.
  • Moisturize without blocking those pores. Add a bit of extra virgin olive oil to your daily moisturizer / night cream. Applying mustard oil on your face at night helps too (if you can bear the smell)
  • Masks made from kitchen ingredients like ripe mashed bananas, avocados, buttermilk or cream (malai) with a pinch of turmeric, egg yolk can be quite beneficial to combat dryness.
  • Pout pretty by scrubbing your lips with olive oil and fine salt to exfoliate. Make your you do not have already chapped lips as this will not only irritate the dry and bruised lips but may also result in redness or bleeding and chances of infection are high.
  • Apply petroleum jelly , lip balms or simply home-made ghee to keep the smile pain free.
  • Make up needs an additional base layer of moisturizer to avoid flakiness. Choose mineral or cream based make up depending on your skin type.

Skin Care: The rest of your beautiful body needs attention too. Don’t let the wind blow away your enthusiasm for a stricter regime during this season. Your skin need extra pampering in this season.

  • There are times when you are tempted to take long hot showers to combat the chill, but this is exactly what you need to avoid. To keep your skin supple tale 5 minutes lukewarm showers.
  • We feel less thirsty and crave for more teas and coffees and hot chocolates in this season. But remember anything with sugar and caffeine will dry your skin, so drink more water (eat sattu to boost thirstiness).
  • Eat lots of Citrus fruits, nuts, foods that are rich in protein, vitamin A, B1, and B2. Avoid fried food as much as you can. Give the sweet tooth a break and eat natural sweet dates for energy and to curb the craving. This will also help you keep your weight in check due to over eating.
  • Make note of winter rashes and try to prevent them by wearing breathable fabrics, moisturizing your skin, using natural, fragrance-free soaps, using broad-spectrum sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher.
  • Avoid rough cracked feet by regularly exfoliating and moisturizing your feet.
  • Use hand creams regularly to avoid those pretty hands from becoming dry and flaky.
  • Moisturizing before bedtime is quite beneficial. Stay away from tight jewelry to avoid rashes.
  • Take care of your elbows because even with the body well moisturized the elbows tend to look white and dry. Moisturize them well.

Hair Care: Let that mane not get matted, avoid bad hair days / nights and stay stylish
Winter tends to make the hair drier and frizzier than normal.

  • Avoid washing hair too often however tempting it may be, use lukewarm water for hair wash. Do not for get to condition your hair for better results use leave in conditioners during winter.
  • Beware of the dangers of dandruff which is especially high in winters Don’t forget that those hot oil massages don’t just feel heavenly they nourish your hair from deep within too, go ahead indulge but don’t over indulge as leaving the oil in your hair for longer periods of time can lead to dandruff so can over stripping it by shampooing too often. So, try to maintain a balance.
  • Rinsing the hair with apple cider vinegar before shampoo helps too.

Style tips: Bring on those jackets and shawls and wear them with panache.

  • Just make sure you have pre-washed and stored those woolens well. Air them well to remove any storage or damp foul smells.
  • Treat your woolen garments well and instead of wearing one bulky sweater and then sweat if the temperature changes use multiple layers of clothes with the base layer closest to your body being soft and nonabrasive (to particularly avoid rashes).
  • Step up your style quotient by wearing your scarves and caps differently.
  • Sometimes step out with the scarf tied to your handbag belt or use it actually as a belt and later if required use it as a scarf.
  • Bring out your boots and funk them up with pieces of jewellery over drab black boots.
  • Don’t freeze to look stylish, you can wear long sleeve blouses, bandh galas, traditional jackets and clothes in thicker material like velvet, brocade, silk, jaquard.
  • Wear warm leggings under your sarees lehengas. Wear knit blouses.
  • Wear embroidered jackets over sarees.
  • Use designer shawls (especially ones with any kind of embroidery work on them) instead of dupattas.
  • If your head feels cold cover your head the traditional way or simply wear some silk hats with jeweler to raise those eyebrow as well as a few temperatures in the room.

Go ahead enjoy the winters in a wise, wacky way and yes don’t forget to smile, after all everyone needs the warmth of the sun and the smile.

This time when I visited my mother-in-law in Chennai and was helping her arrange her cupboard I was surprised to see that she had very few sarees.

For someone who is an ardent lover of sarees she has a very good collection of some of the best silk sarees and it was a great surprise that she had now a great chunk of them removed from her collection.

Upon asking she told me that the borders of her silk sarees were torn, in some cases the saree itself was tearing. That is how silk is, if kept for a long time it generally starts tearing out on its own.

She seemed distressed that this should happen and was feeling bad that no one could use them in any way. I asked her how would she like it if she could still use them in some way and she replied “I would be delighted”

So here are a few ideas I shared with her. These are specific to silk sarees but if we take other sarees we can do a lot more.

  1. Cushion covers
  2. Curtains / Drapes
  3. Handbags / Potlis / Purses / Jholas
  4. Mattress Covers
  5. Furnishings / Upholstery
  6. Table covers, runners, placemats
  7. Dresses, pavadas (skirts), jackets, blouses (the list is endless here, you can turn it into any imaginable garment)
  8. Frame the Elaborate Pallu or the Borders
  9. Tapestries
  10. Reuse just the borders with other sarees
  11. Scarves / Dupattas / Stoles
  12. Saree Covers
  13. Gift Bags  / Dressed up Gift Boxes / Jewellery Boxes / Gift Envelopes
  14. Bed spreads
  15. Turn the border into a designer belt
  16. Lampshades
  17. Use two or more sarees to make a new patterned saree
  18. File Folder Covers / Diary Covers
  19. Patchwork quilts
  20. Trays / Teapot Covers
  21. Bookmarks (using the borders)

I haven’t posted any pictures here because I would have to take them from the net, I welcome my readers to share pictures if they have tried any of these.

My mother in law loved my ideas and I am about to embark on a creative  journey hope you people join me turn my ideas into reality.

A connoisseur of the Amazon.com curated collection as well as a few Indian online jewllery websites I am not new to buying fine jewellery online.

While everyone starts with a bang many fizzle out on the journey and eventually turn into brick and mortar stores adding to their overheads which are collected from the consumers (I believe not many have given this a thought) and then the cost of jewellry goes up significantly. The same is usually explained as making charges or design costs. Making them akin to their traditional counterparts, however much they would love to deny this fact.

When I chanced upon Melorra.com I decided to give them a try. Not only were their prices much lower than any other brands in the market but their products too looked deliciously fresh.

The jewellery pieces are something I would love to flaunt on a daily basis, stylish, suave and totally chic. Also the use of semi precious gemstones is something that is trending in the Indian jewellery scenario currently, until now it was only the precious gemstones which ruled the jewellery designs making the jewllery both precious and heavy for daily wear. The whether-it-will-suit-me factor too played a major role as we Indians believe that certain gemstones (precious) are to be worn only after receiving a   prescription. the lesser semi precious gemstones however beautiful have no place in our fine jewellery.

Having said that, the quality of products is not the only key to success for most brands. The quality of people who work behind the scenes quietly making it happen for you is what matters too.

My encounter with Saroj Yaramilli over the telephone brought to mind an image of a woman who is dedicated to her business and takes great pride and responsibility of everything that goes on in her company.

For those of you who haven’t tried their jewellery I recommend you at least check out their website and you will be spoilt for choice from their vast catalogue comprising of various collections making them daringly different. Let’s see if you have the panache to carry a Melorra piece.

The festival of lights is my favourite amongst all Indian festivals.

Not only does it get the home cleaned thoroughly but you can actually turn some of the junk you may have collected into interesting decorative pieces to be used around the home during the festival.

This is how I have recycled my junk.

Use old saucers and plates to make interesting Diya / tealight holders.

IMG_1734

Cover those old bangles with silk threads to match your festival dress and embellish.

Make use of the old CDs to make lovely hangings

Colour and end decorate old diyas

IMG_1732

Reuse all the old wax to make new candles, use old pots, glasses, bowls jars

Turn those old bottles into interesting lamps

I am on a roll making the best use of all my old stuff turning it into something new and usable this Diwali and I am not done yet.

I hope you find it interesting enough to try some at home.

If James Bond had his array of devices that helped him get through his missions unscathed how can Gary Eggsy be far behind.

The clothing brand that was also associated with the first Kingsman movie MR PORTER and director Mr Matthew Vaughn have created a bespoke collection from Ms Arianne Phillips’ costume design for Kingsman.

In fact, MR PORTER has an online store for the brand Kingsman fans and a pop in store in London. https://www.mrporter.com/mens/designers/kingsman

While browsing through their merchandise I chanced upon a single watch related to the Kingsman Franchise.

It is then I came to know that the brand Tag Heuer had announced a global partnership with MARV films and 20th Century Fox in the upcoming new film Kingman: The Golden Circle, in cinemas worldwide on September 22, 2017.

In the new film, the Kingsman agents will all be fitted with TAG Heuer watches.

Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of TAG Heuer and Chairman of the Watch Division of LVMH Group, said: “Kingsman means explosions, action, laughter, and, of course, elegance. Its cast of young actors is the stuff of dreams – gentleman who aren’t afraid of anything. This is a perfect fit with TAG Heuer’s target market. This partnership will help us to get even closer to the younger generation.

Director Matthew Vaughn added: “For Kingsman: The Golden Circle, we needed a smart watch for our agents. We looked at the different options available, but none of them were elegant enough for a Kingsman. Then I saw an interview on Bloomberg TV with Jean-Claude Biver about his connected watch, and it became immediately obvious; the Kingsman agents would wear the TAG Heuer Connected.”

The watches worn by the characters play a decisive role in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, pivotal to the success of the Kingsman agents’ missions. They needed watches that could withstand anything, be it underwater shots, fight scenes or stunts. Film-goers will see the Kingsman agents wearing the TAG Heuer Connected and the legendary Monaco Calibre 11, worn by the American Statesman agents.

The Kingsman Special Edition reproduces the aesthetic adopted by the agents: pink gold lugs and an elegant leather strap with Kingsman print. The watch comes with a second strap in orange velvet, inspired by the iconic orange velvet suit.

The Connected Modular 45 Kingsman Special Edition differs from the classic collection with its dials function. Available in either midnight blue or grey, it bears the Kingsman inscription and logo at 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock. At 10:10, the dial vibrates for 10 seconds and the K-shaped logo appears.

MB&F is a company that has no dearth of creative imagination and no lack of technology that transforms this creativity into reality.

The latest collaboration between L’Epée 1839 and MB&F brings us a desk clock which is maybe every child’s fantasy.

Destination Moon an eight-day table top clock.

MBandF-Destination-Moon-Clock-LEpee-1

It’s rocket shape design which cleverly displays hours and minutes on large stainless steel discs with stamped numerals. The horizontal plates perforated to look like Meccano components.

This rocket of time has an open movement and is structured vertically.

MBandF-Destination-Moon-Clock-LEpee-2

Complete with your own personal astronaut “Neil” who can be  magnetically attached to any point on the ladder depending whether he is about to take of on an exploratory mission in the universe where your time could be off by tens of thousands of years or returning to tell tales of the fantasy kind.

MBandF-Destination-Moon-Clock-LEpee-9

Costing around $20,000 this clock can enliven your childhood fantasies albeit you have to be Richie Rich to do so.

Floating in space with four limited editions of 50 pieces available in black, green, blue, or palladium this rocket can land only on few privileged desks.

I was more excited than my 7-year-old son, it was my first visit to a destination I had only dreamt about.

I attribute all my desires and dreams to Yash Chopra for shooting his movies in the most exotic locales. I grew up on images of snow mountains with beautiful Indian actresses clad in flimsy chiffon sarees braving the cold. I was not romantic enough to try that though.

When the day arrived I was jittery and jumping at everything (remember have always been like that before a school picnic).

So when I finally reached my destination I was totally jet lagged and tired mostly from travelling alone with my son (who was very co-operative thankfully).

But all tiredness drained away when the girls (wives of my husband’s colleagues and two female colleagues) suggested we visit Triberg Waterfalls.

The adventure began at Basel station where we bought tickets for Triberg but noticed we were given tickets for Freiburg. After much confusion we realized the Swiss pronounce Triberg as Tree-Berg and not Tri-Berg.

Three trains later when we arrived at the quaint village station it seemed like I was still in a dream.

We hiked up to the entrance of the waterfalls in still a dreamy state. The area around the entrance to the waterfalls is reminiscent of a Fairyland.

The waterfall is the highest in Germany and has an overall drop of 163 metres over 7 cascades. We only managed to see the last cascade.

Ice-cream in the cold is an experience I have always enjoyed and browsing through the local shops selling tourists cuckoo clocks, wood carvings, souvenirs we wandered the streets just losing ourselves in the misty mysterious town. The countryside around Triberg is fascinating.

The Cuckoo clock museum is worth a visit and if you are a lover of souvenirs get a Cuckoo clock, it is one of those things that you will love for a very long time. These are high quality craft products and if you do not wish to carry it along with you for the rest of the trip the shops can arrange to ship it to your home so that you will find it right at your doorstep when you are back.

The trip covered various other places and I feel I cannot do justice to all the places in one post so I am going to do a series of posts.

So keep coming back for a peek into what goes on in a traveler’s mind when you visit Switzerland for the first time.

SIHH or Salon Internationale de la Haute Horlogerie. A fair that was started in 1991 by Baume & Mercier, Cartier, Piaget, Gerald Genta, and Daniel Roth. Held in January each year after the holidays it is the second largest fair held mostly for retailers and journalists. Held in Geneva it is almost impossible to get into the SIHH if you do not belong professionally in the industry.

It is followed by Baselworld which was the first watch show in Switzerland. The first fair was held in 1917 but it wasn’t until 1986 that non-Swiss exhibitors could join the fair. Held in March every year Baselworld is open to the public and only costs you an entry ticket.
This year SIHH opened its doors for the first time to the general public on Friday 20 January. This open house marks a new stage in the history of the show.

SIHH 2017: THE NUMBERS

45,000 square meters of exhibition

17 Historic houses

13 independent craftspeople

1200 accredited journalists

EXHIBITING THE WATCHES TO LOOK OUT FOR @ THE SIHH 2017

1. MB&F HM7 Aquapod Tourbillon Diving-Style Watch

No it’s not an Alien space ship, it’s not Saturn, it’s a watch. MB&F debuts the Horological Machine No. 7 (HM7) Aquapod. With this very futuristic circa $100,000 flying tourbillon-equipped timepieces on your wrist, you are bound to be high on style.
MB& F’s long-time design partner Eric Giroud has designed the HM7 Aquapod collection.
The Aquaopod is being produced as a limited edition in two versions, one in titanium and one in 18k red gold. The case is 53.8mm wide and 21.3mm thick produced from a whopping 95 parts.

Downside: it is that it only has 50 meters of water resistance.

2. Richard Mille RM 50-03 McLaren F1 Record-Setting Lightweight Watch

Lightweight is the key word here. The watch weighs only 40 grams including the strap making it the lightest split-second chronograph with a tourbillon and the movement weighs a scant 7 grams

A case that marries titanium, carbon TPT (thin-ply technology), and a Richard Mille exclusive and apparent watchmaking first: Graph TPT, better known as graphene, that is six times lighter than steel and 200 times as strong.
Richard Mille collectors looking to chase one of these bad boys down must do so at RM boutiques, where only 75 pieces will be available in total. Owners will also get a 1:5 scale model of the 2017 McLaren-Honda car driven by two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso, which is a neat little bow on a package that costs 980,000 CHF before VAT.

3. Ulysse Nardin InnoVision 2 Concept Watch

Ulysse Nardin promises a list of 10 innovations in the InnoVision 2.
The InnoVision 2 being a concept watch, it is difficult to determine how well the actual movement works, or how much of an improvement in performance much of this new tech has over more traditional movements.

Ulysse Nardin declined to share things like specific technical specifications for the InnoVision 2 such as case size and materials. In a sense, those things are mostly irrelevant given that the focus is on the internals.

4. Urwerk UR-T8 Watch

Continuing in the freaky innovative watches we bring you the Urwerk UR-T8 Watch. Urwerk is releasing their Urwerk UR-T8 watch to mark the 20th anniversary of the brand.
The watch has a reversible bracelet which allows the titanium caseback to be face up while hiding/protecting the dial underneath.

The wearer can change the look to look as if there is a mysterious looking bracelet on the wrist and by flipping it over tell time by only squeezing the two buttons on the side of the case, lifting it vertically, rotating the case 180° around its axis, and returning it back to its initial flat position.

The Urwerk UR-T8 watch will be available in natural titanium or black PVD-coated case options and limited to an initial run of 60 pieces. Price for the Urwerk UR-T8 is CHF 100,000.

5. Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic Universal Time Tourbillon Watch

Bold and expensive this “top-of-the-line” Geophysic watch built on the modern retro-inspired collection of watches.

Geophysic Universal Time Tourbillon combines a world-time complication with an “orbital” flying tourbillon – in a rather visually stunning manner.
The flying tourbillon seems to come right out of the dial, which is enhanced by the fact that most of the dial is domed.

It has in-house-made automatic movement with the “true second” ticking seconds hand and the world-time indicator cased in a 43.5mm wide solid platinum case.

The movement has 48 hours of power reserve and is produced from 375 parts and the 22k pink gold automatic rotor is visible through rear of the case’s sapphire crystal exhibition window.

The limited edition of 100 pieces reference Q8126420 Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic Universal Time Tourbillon in platinum is priced at around $145,000.

6. HYT Skull Pocket Watch

If wicked is your middle name you will be dying to own this one.
Imagine being a villain, this watch pulled out of your pocket to commence the countdown to doom is going to make the hero forget saving the world and he is definitely going to be intrigued by this sinister looking time piece.

With a 65-hour power reserve this retrograde movement uses a bellows-like mechanism to push a green fluid through a capillary around the skull indicating the time by the corresponding luminous numbers in the outer bezel.

Like other HYT Skull watches, the slow-moving fluid indicates only the hours on the HYT Skull Pocket – not that useful for counting down to plans of apocalyptic destruction after all.

The HYT Skull Pocket will be made in an extremely limited run of only eight pieces, and you’ll need more than just a great costume and dreams of world domination – you’ll also need the bankroll of a super-villain to be able to add one to your collection, at a price of $115,000.

7. Roger Dubuis Excalibur Carbon Spider Watch

The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Carbon Spider watch adds the first ever carbon movement plate, bridges, and tourbillon upper cage to be made entirely in carbon.
A cool black and red technically minimalistic watch has a 45mm case with the dial has a “honeycomb” pattern, made of titanium and vulcanized rubber, with the bezel featuring red lacquer.

The movement is the hand-wound caliber RD509SQ. Continuing the carbon theme, the movement features a multi-layer carbon plate, bridges, and tourbillon upper cage that matches the honeycomb decor above.

The strap is black rubber, which has a red Rubber-Tech fabric-like inlay and red stitching throughout. The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Carbon Spider is limited to 28 pieces and is priced at 180,000 CHF.

8. Romain Jerome Eyjafjallajökull-DNA Burnt Lava

A timepiece the unpronounceable name: the Eyjafjallajökull-DNA, pays tribute to the temperamental Icelandic volcano.

Introduced in a 99-piece limited edition, it comes in a 46 mm black PVD-coated stainless steel case with a stabilized rusted steel bezel.

The dial comprises genuine lava rock from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano as well as red and yellow cold enamel. Along with its strap made of toad skin, it retails for $26,500.

9. Ludovic Ballouard’s “Upside Down Watch.”

The watch not overly complex, but it is technically complicated

The hour indicator is placed on a small disc that is capable of rotating. The hours are placed in an upside-down position. The “active” hour, which corresponds to the right time, is flipped around to be right side up. The discs turn very quickly when it is their “turn.” There is a single blued steel hand on the main dial for the minutes, as well as a small subsidiary seconds dial. Simple yet unique.

The first watches are part of a limited edition set of just 12 pieces. Ballouard will make more watches after this set (that has already been sold).

Each watch will be in solid platinum (that includes the strap buckle and crown) in a 41mm wide case. Price for them will be around 40,000 Swiss Francs – which is more or less the same in US dollars.

And now serving the dessert. If you do not have a sweet tooth may I odder you some Swiss Cheese.

Presenting the $1 Million Watch Made Of Genuine Swiss Cheese. Don’t drop out of your chair yet.

10. Cheesy Swiss Mad Watch

The youthful CEO of H. Moser & Cie Edouard Meylan, releases something that has managed to capture large amounts of attention.

The first Swiss watch housed in a case made of hardened Swiss cheese, a strap made of cowhide and a red dial reminiscent of the Swiss flag.

A Vacherin Mont d’Or médaille d’or cheese comprises the base for the case, which has been mixed with a composite itr2 material made with carbon nanotubes (the same used in the Pebble 2 Smartwatch, by the way) before being machined and polished.

And, no, it doesn’t smell.

The price of the unique-piece watch is an equally symbolic 1,081,291 Swiss francs, which references the date of the signing of the Swiss Federal Charter on August 1, 1291.

The watch is made mainly to draw attention to the law regarding the use of the words “Swiss made” and in a way to support Meylan’s personal campaign drawing attention to the fact that many of the world’s best Swiss (and German!) brands do not have “Swiss made” on their dials.

He has decided to remove ‘Swiss Made’ from their dials for all of their new collections. Meylan’s hashtag #MakeSwissMadeGreatAgain along with his video staged in a Swiss barn simultaneously draws attention to the fact that his watches are more Swiss than most.

While everyone makes a cream, a gel
A miracle that promises you
Those fine lines and wrinkles
Will vanish with recurrent use
How I wish they would instead
Discover a formula that could
Give you crow’s feet from smiling
And shiny skin from being healthy
How I wish the love handles could be
Loved to hug and the men they
Would not seek bags of bones
That make up companies
Showed rosy cheeks in advertisements
And real happy women
Not sulky pouts dead eyes
Perfectly kohled but empty
I wish to see real people
Not just mannequins impossible
Whom we see and dread the scales
But who are found in

We all have heard of the man who wants to get you the moon. I would settle for one who could get me the moon earrings or the Chandbaali earrings.

Chand means the moon in Hindi and baala or baali means ring or earring so in essence Chandbaali means the Moon Earrings.

These earrings which have been around since the Mughal era are now making a sensational come-back and every woman wants to own and flaunt a pair.

It is believed that Noor Jahan (the only Mughal Empress to have coinage struck in her name) was the one who christened the Chandbaalis. Her love for these earrings was so strong that she was believed to have owned several exquisite pairs and wore them to her dying day.

The second most popular royals were the wives of the Nizams of Hyderabad who adorned their Chandbaalis with pearls and uncut diamonds.

Today Chandbaalis come in a host of metals, stones, pearls in various shapes, sizes,  and prices and can be paired with multiple ensembles instantly upping the glam quotient.

Though they have been a trend in Hyderabad for quite some time now, they have been popularized by the tinsel town and almost every actress has been spotted wearing one.

Well what are you still mooning over, get yourself a pair!

These pictures were randomly taken from my balcony (on the 8th floor).

In a crowded place like India it is a privilege to be able to live in an apartment which has a balcony facing a vast open space.

My home overlooks one of the main train stations and sometimes the visions are magical.

These were taken from a small lane. The Sun seems like a huge balloon, one that I would love to chase across all magical lands.

The Commemorative Timepiece

A commemorative unique timepiece made of gold was presented by The Muhammad Ali Center (Louisville, Kentucky), with a pair of Muhammad Ali-autographed boxing gloves, a commemorative medal, and certificates of authenticity, all stored in a custom studded leather case made in Switzerland for the occasion.

The unique timepiece, created by TAG Heuer, was inspired by the famous Ring-Master stopwatch introduced in 1957 and now on display in the TAG Heuer museum. The Ring-Master was equipped with 7 rings, each one featuring a different scale, including one for boxing.

The watch was auctioned with all proceeds going to The Muhammad Ali Center.

caratlaneSo what happens when the Titan of the jewelry business enters the lane you shop in while looking for affordable everyday jewelry?

The result is total customer delight for someone like me who trusts only these two brands for precious jewelry.

I have often found it hard to decide whether to go in for a Tanishq piece for Festive occasions or flaunt a Caratlane lightweight every day.

By Titan group’s acquiring a majority stake in Tiger Global-backed online jewellery startup CaratLane it is a win win all the way for consumers (who are a wide varied mix).

blog1200-x-600-02-800x400

The target audience for both the brands is totally interchangeable and this will give the brand Caratlane a newer approach and more seriousness in terms of audience.

While Caratlane will be able to reach out to more customers Titan will be able to convert more young and on the go audiences and the myth surrounding Tanishq (and all the sub brands under it) that it is not-so-affordable will soon evaporate.

deepika-padukone-tanishq-gold-earrings-design

On the other hand, Caratlane will also gain a newfound trust with the brand backing of the Tata Group.

Hoping to see some great jewelry from both the brands in future.

Hamilton then decided to make a watch as a faithful tribute to King of Rock and Roll, which made watch-making history as the world’s first electrical, battery-powered watch.

The Hamilton Ventura, with its asymmetric triangular case broke the mould.

The Hamilton Ventura Elvis80 Auto breaks challenging new technical and design ground with its steeply sloped crystal and curved dial, contemporary case architecture and intricate attachment fixture.

H24551331_Ventura-Elvis80-Hamilton-Watches

Stunning contemporary case architecture, intricate design detail and an asymmetric attachment fixture are teamed with a Swiss quartz movement to make a clearly modern statement.

Attached by a black leather band , the watch sits comfortably on the wrist. Just as Elvis’s fusion of country music and rhythm and blues was way ahead of its time, this unisex watch has its eye firmly fixed on the future.

More Watches from the Ventura Collection. You can choose between black rubber, black leather, or a cleverly integrated bracelet that features unusually shaped articulation points to ensure the case flows seamlessly into the bracelet.

Imagine a watch so smart it is attuned to your touch. While most of the connected watches are by tech savvy brands who are not into the watch business TAG Heuer has taken the leap by creating a watch that is a technical ingenuity built with titanium, sapphire, and the best in class touchscreen technology.

Not only is it smart but I would say quite good-looking too.

It’s bulky beast like appearance is what appeals to the ones who are coveting it. It’s 46mm dial is a little big for dainty wrists and I would love it if it was a notch smaller.

But don’t go by the looks it is super light for its hunky looks.

Equipped with directional wind and weather monitoring, RaceChrono Pro capability, and Google Fit, each designed at the synthesis of style and precision thanks to its innovative interactive counters.

HOW IT WORKS.

TAG Heuer Connected is built on the latest release of Android Wear with thousands of apps at the Google Play store. It is also iOS compatible.

Bold, custom themes allow numerous display options and Android Wear connects you with thousands of apps that you can tailor to your taste.

This race is a legend in the mountains of Colorado. Its name? “The Race to the Clouds”. It always takes place without safety barriers.

2

19.99 kilometres, 156 bends, a climb of 1440 metres to an altitude of 4300 metres. It is the world’s last real #DontCrackUnderPressure race.

3

TAG Heuer – the official timekeeper for the greatest and most legendary events in motor racing history – couldn’t miss this occasion to celebrate the race’s centenary.

1

Colorado Springs, USA – 26th June 2016 – TAG Heuer celebrates the 100th anniversary of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb as Official Timekeeper for the race, paying tribute to the magnificent performance of Romain Dumas, who finished the race in 8.51.445.

6

In 2016, more than 100 participants took part in the race, divided into 17 categories of cars, motorcycles, quads and trucks. The “Unlimited” category is always the most spectacular with its +1000-HP supercars.

7

Created in 1916 by Spencer Penrose, it is the only race in the world still worthy of the #DontCrackUnderPressure tagline.

Its breathtaking stats: the track measures 19.99 kilometres over 156 turns, climbing an impressive 1440 metres from the start line at Mile 7 (2862 m) to the finish at the summit at an altitude of 4300 metres.

It is one of the hardest races in the world – tough on the drivers and on their vehicles: the high altitudes slow down the driver’s reflexes, straining their brains and cramping their muscles, while the engines can lose up to 30% of their power.

The race has very few safety barriers. With almost no guard rails, the slightest miscalculation on a bend could send them plummeting into a ravine. And, at the track’s summit, this is some 600 metres.

The Pikes Peak has therefore become legendary for its spectacular crashes. An extreme race which has become legendary, an event in which TAG Heuer’s philosophy #DontCrackUnderPressure is particularly appropriate.

So when my husband got this nice gift sets he shared one with a dear friend.

It contained

1 Fresh Shaving Cream

and

1 Fresh Skin Soother After Shave

I was naturally intrigued about how both the gentlemen felt on using these products and asked them.

Here’s what they have to say:

“The Shaving Cream: You need just a little bit which helps your razor simply glide over the skin leaving it supple and smooth with absolutely no traces of hair or any cuts”

“The After Shave: Moisturises the skin so well, it is definitely calming and soothing. When the Shaving Cream and the After Shave are used together it is a great shaving experience”.

These gentlemen said it. Now you tell me if you have used any of the products and how do you find it.

“We have all dreamt of an ideal team, of seeing some of our favourite players come together under the same colours. To see the two biggest rivals of all time team up in a legendary match, buzzing with the passion for football that drives us all, is a real privilege. This match is one of the “off the record” moments that I could have chosen as my favourite “EURO moment”. It is a match which says a lot about Hublot’s involvement and the ties it has woven over the past decade in the world of football, by teaming up with prestigious clubs, star trainers, magicians with the ball and the best leagues.” siad Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hubot

Mood Indigo, True Blue, Fern Green, Copper Tint, Purple Haze

Robusta Brown, Pure Black, Rich loam (brown)

We Indians love kohled eyes and they are soon becoming and international craze. So why stick to plain black?

Especially when you have home brands like Soul Tree which  use natural ingredients like almond oil, castor oil, cocoa butter, honey, wax, carnauba wax, candelilla, butter ghee, natural vitamin E and mineral pigments.

The brand is well priced and widely available. The BDIH certification makes totally dependable.

The only drawback I see here is it is not smudge proof otherwise it is in my opinion a really great, safe product.

All ye fans of Can Can now can eat and be merry at The Bar à Bulles.

Hard to find (all good things in life are!) at the foothills of Montmartre, you fight your way to the Cité Veron to climb a few stairs and discover this uncommon bar where the lanterns hung up to the trees discretly light this pretty green area as the summer sunshine lies down.

Since it opened since last year it has been a revolution.

The entrance of the bar is located in the Cité Véron, typically Montmartre-style and full of memories from the time when Boris Vian and Jacques Prévert lived there.

Then, they have a totally new menu of tapas and brunch, simpler but yummier based on fresh and homemade products

It will be the occasion for you to have a delightful meal while you are relaxing on a terrasse protected from the noisy boulevard and while you are attending to the several events, exhibitions or happenings organized by the team of Sinny & Ooko.

New entrance : 4Bis Cité Veron
Open from Wednesday to Sunday!
Wednesday – Noon to Midnight

Colour me red, wine, toffee, orange, mauve. Make my lips luscious.

No matter what the economists have to say a good lipstick is a must

Bags will come and turn into messengers, totes and slings

My lips with forever have colour flings

Watches will slide away with time

Jewellery may be vintage or junk or bling

A selfie will definitely highlight

My pretty pout, kohl eyes

Be it a flowery day dress or a cocktail gown

Hairstyle can be wild or an upscale chignon

My lips have to be the perfect shade

I cannot always find it in me

To burn cash for a clothing that’s just a fad

But makeup will never go away

It will never make me look fat

Give me the lotions, potions, creams and eye-shadows

Without them I am a total nerd

Cosmetics into a woman shoe, concept for fashion and shopping.

Another amazing product from the Fresh Cosmetics Bouquet.

I often have dry lips even during summers and I hate to keep applying lip balm after every few hours. This product  just resolved it.

Apply in the morning for a full day moisturized lips that are soft supple and oh so kissable.

And having an SPF adds value. I use once in the morning and then once before I go to bed.

Being colorless it allows me to apply my matt lipsticks over it. I sometimes use a dark lip pencil and then apply this for a nice shiny but healthy glowing day effect.

I am addicted to Sugar, are you?

The world is fast turning east for both its spiritual as well as aesthetic well being.

Just Herbs  is an Indian skin care brand that has roots in Ayurveda and has a product line that boasts of products that are results-driven and made from certified organic and wild crafted ingredients collected from across India.

I am especially in love with their Rejuvenating Beauty Elixir.

This small bottle (15 ml) has a genie which restores and nourishes my skin while I sleep.

You can mix a few drops of this serum to your night cream and will see the results in a few applications.

Gotukola (Chinese name meaning “fountain of youth”) and Indian Ginseng are considered most pure, closest to nature colour and complexion promoters in ancient Ayurvedic texts and are known to make skin youthful.

Pros:

  • Suits all skin types
  • Fragrance-free
  • Free from petrochemicals, parabens, SLS/SLES PEG/PPG, Genetically modified ingredients(GMO) and other synthetic ingredientsserum-shoot-pic-339x490

Key ingredients:

gotukola ext 4% indian ginseng ext. 4%, garden cress ext.1%, rosehip seed oil (vit c source) 2%, wheat germ oil (vit E source)1%,eucalyptus leaf ext 1% fumittory ext. 2%, liquorice ext. 2%, indian senna ext (botanical alternative to hyaluronic acid) 1%,naagkesar ext. 2%, certified organic cold pressed safflower oil (vit E source) 2%, colloidal oats 3%, certified organic cold pressed moringa seed oil (vit A & C source) 2%, allantoin 0.1% (plant derived) Other ingredients: certified organic aloevera juice, certified organic veg. glycerine, potassium sorbate, soy lecithin, sodium benzoate, natural preservative blend of herbs and essential oils.

Rough hands are a sad sight. They are also very uncomfortable and even in some cases painful. If not cared for properly the skin can get chaffed and infected.

It is also quite a task to keep your hands well moisturized. Indian women have so many chores around the house that aggravate this condition and creams to soften the hands is the last thing on their minds.

It was quite a pleasant surprise to receive SALLY HANSEN 18 HOUR PROTECTIVE HAND CREMEin my Fab Bag.

It’s faint tangy orangy scent was the first thing I noticed about the product.

The ingredients Shea Butter, Vitamins A, E, C and Grape Seed Oil formula promise to deliver fast relief, maximum moisture and incredibly soft skin for up to 18 hours and that is exactly what this cream does. It keeps your skin moisturised for a nice long period.

I have used the product and found it extremely hydrating and moisturizing especially in winters.I love the way the cream gets immediately absorbed and not being too greasy it is a useful product even in most tropical areas.

Totally recommend this one for both day and night use.

Have frizzy hair, unmanageable curls, crazy flyaway tresses?

Smoothen with

Brocato Curlinterrupted Curl Calming Balm

I received a sample size of this in my Fab Bag and though I was initially hesitant to try it I absolutely loved this product. It is a product that works well in most hot and humid climates too. It is also the perfect alternative styling gel for semi-straight hair.

It’s Brocato’s Curlscience Ingredient Complex formula allows the balm(more of a gel) to spread easily and evenly throughout the hair.

Warning: Little goes a long way! Product can get too heavy and messy if you apply too much but the right amount can give you desired results.

I have used it on my wild hair days to turn my tresses into soft shiny manageable curls with the perfect volume and bounce.

The full size product is a bit expensive but should last you a long time so consider it as a long-term investment for great hair.

Is that just a direction, a way to go or perhaps a way of saying things (things went south for him) and by being that does it become ominous?

So may interpretations to a word. To some it may seem nothing but a point on the roadway to others yet it may  mean the world. If you are a student the word probably has only geographical meaning.

But what if you ponder about the political aspects of the word and the nuances of how it is used in speech.

By the Global South reference it means the less developed region so by diplomatically  injecting the word are you being slightly racist?

According to the Greek mythology the south wind blew in the summer and autumn storms does that still indicate the various economic instabilities of the southern part of the globe.

In India all states below Maharashtra are ‘South’. So though there are multiple states with different culture, cuisines and languages everyone is clubbed into being a ‘South-Indian’ or ‘Southie’.

The tropical climate gives most of the southerners a swarthy complexion which has somehow made them less appealing to their Northern countrymen.

They are often the butt of ‘Southie’ jokes and attempts are often made to insult their intelligence. There is also a widespread fear that the ‘South Indians’ are after everyone’s jobs.

This form of racism within the country is as prevalent as any type of racism in any other part of the world.

The South Indian states are most literate (80%) and have higher national growth as compared to other parts of India.

They are also very proud about their heritage. A fact not many other parts of India can boast about.

Coming from various dynasties makes these people a proud lot and a colorful one too.

So maybe going south is not such a bad idea.

With the make up going bold and bright the neons are fast becoming a craze.

And what better when you have the neon (see bold) color on your lip that is matte and stays long after Cinderella lost her sandal.

The LaSplash Lip Couture is a creamy lipstick which is very smooth and on drying gives a complete matte finish making it look really chic. What’s even better is it stays on for a long long time.

I would recommend you to exfoliate your lips and apply a primer or some lip balm a few minutes before applying the lipstick.

My favorite shade is ‘Forbidden‘ and just like its name, it is like the forbidden apple that Eve was too tempted to resist.(BTW they have a shade called ‘Till Midnight’ how apt)

Wear it for a happening party and you are sure to make the gals go green with envy and the guys are sure to notice those lips.

What’s a girl without a little bold, vibrant and show-stopping drama. Go on get bold.

It was by chance that I discovered this product.

I was expecting my baby and my skin had started drying up and becoming flaky. I used to have red breakouts and  my husband got me a travel sample thinking it would help my skin.

The product is expensive but works well for what its worth.

By applying a small pearl in the morning you ensure that the skin is nourished for almost 12 hours.

It works like magic and has restorative properties that start showing effect almost immediately. It’s Cellular Prime Complex  restores the elasticity of your skin and leaves your skin looking healthy and radiant.

Initially I thought it was a bit rich and creamy and was afraid it would make my face look oily but if you have very dry skin it gets absorbed into the skin quickly and does not make you feel like you are wearing a heavy cream.

Use it first before applying a sunscreen. Can be used both during day time and night-time as well.

There have been other variants of this product but I am still loyal to this version.

Want to style your hair and make it stay for long, try Tigi Bedhead Candy Fixations Totally Baked Hair Meringue.

It was recommended to me by this really cute stylist at one of the Juice Salons.

Just 1-2 pumps (depending on your hair length) should go a long way in retaining the shape of your preferred hairdo or just apply and blow dry for great volume and long lasting style impressions.

Comes in a convenient 207 ml  / 07 oz spray can this is a great priming product for all hair types.

I have used it even on those really bad hair days and got maximum results.

But don’t let me tell you that Try it yourself.

This came in my Fab Bag subscription. Not sure on how to use it best I just started using it over my regular sunscreen Bello Photostable Sunscreen Gel .

Just a small pearl of this cream and it works its way beautifully into the skin.

It stays an entire day and gives you the no makeup look.

Just cover it with regular compact powder and you are good to go. I use it every time I step out (even in the most harshest sunny days).

It gives you a matt effect so for those with dry skin I would really recommend a moisturizer or as in my case I use the  Bello Photostable Sunscreen Gel .  during the day and a moisturizer for evenings prior to application of Sea Soul HD Finish CC Cream with SPF 20 – Light.

It is a complete coverage and correcter cream and helps to correct discoloration by acne, scars, sun damage & uneven skin tones.

Comes in two shades Medium and Light choose according to your skin type.

It is very light and you will like its sheer texture.

Totally recommended.

As mentioned earlier dry and sensitive skin needs more than average care.

Also one must be extra careful that there is no averse reaction to a product.

Which is why I am a Big Fan of Brands that make small one time use product pouches.

They are the ones that we keep going back to because they have given us the chance to try and trust the product.

And in case where the product is unsuitable the loss is minimal so is the damage.

I was as usual a bit wary of trying out face masks (most of them are known to cleanse but also dehydrate the skin).

When I did try the Sea Soul Dead Sea Moroccan Argan Hydrating Mask I was amazed at the result.

The mask leaves your skin, soft supple and totally hydrated.

As promised it

  1. Smoothens, Lightens and Brightens your skin
  2. Hydrates and Nourishes the skin
  3. Reduces and Cleanses pores
  4. Infuses essential minerals into the skin

I would recommend this for dry skin.

Also the effects stay for a long time and you will not need this more than twice a month.

A professional approach to everyday life (how to apply office work culture at home and make life easy)

Some of us are the best organized professionals in our offices at work but what stops us being the same in our personal lives. We strive our best to keep a clutter free desk and computer why then do we have a cluttered home.

Running a home is as much fun or as challenging as office work and the same principles and ethics can be applied at home too.

I have known some of my bosses to keep detailed files and folders both online as well as offline but when it is time to file the tax they just cannot find their documents.

What stops us from organizing our personal lives? It is a habit that can be cultivated and it only serves to make things easier for us.

I have learnt some of these amazing ways of an organised and neat home from my aunt who could tell you where the needle is (which drawer in which cabinet in which room) if you woke her in the middle of the night (no matter how groggy she was).

Here’s a list of a few things that we should follow in our personal life to make life clutter free, stress free and time and wealth well managed.

  1. Keep a big box file with dividers for all your monthly groceries, electricity bills and other monthly recurring expenses. If you have a pc or a smart phone download the expense app or simply work in an excel sheet to create a budget. This helps in affixing regular spends and also helps in controlling unnecessary expenditure.
  1. Make a separate header for miscellaneous spends or for buying gifts, specify the people you want to buy gifts for, the occasions and fix a budget which you can spend for them. Then out of your monthly spends keep aside a sum for these occasions. This will keep you on track and you will not have to spend more in a month and fall short on other necessary spends.
  1. Make a separate file for impulsive shopping bills. This will give you an insight on how and where you are splurging and once in a year check the items you have bought impulsively. If you haven’t used them within a year you never had any use for them.
  1. File individual cell phone bills, bank account statements, credit card statements (along with the payment slips to keep track of paid bills). This will ensure you have all bills in case of any dispute. They will also serve as your address proofs when required and the you do not have to run to the bank for statements when you have to apply for a loan or while filing tax or any such requirements.
  1. File away all the electronics / appliances bills and their warranty cards. This will be easier to find when service for any appliance is required. Put the manuals in a separate box.
  1. Keep a desktop or a large wall calendar where you can mark important things and events to plan in advance for any contingencies (like reminding yourself to book a gas cylinder when expecting guests etc.)
  1. Make a payment schedule for all the bills to be paid, for this first make an excel sheet with all the Bills and their cycles and space out the payment schedule over a period of two to three weeks. This will not only bring regularity but also control outgo of funds and serve as a reminder to pay all bills.
  1. Make a photocopied set of all the required address or id proofs such as the pan card, aadhar card, passport, telephone bill (do this for every member of your family) This will save you the trouble of doing last minute searching for Xerox centers. Also you do not have to then hand over these important originals to unknown persons if they come home to open a bank account etc (which can be quite a risk in this day and age)
  1. Scan or photograph all important personal documents and email it yourself or keep in cloud storage.
  1. Keep all important certificates and registrations in clear folder files.
  1. Keep all bank related stuff in a designated drawer / space.
  1. Assign proper storage for various items in the house for the ease of finding them when required. Like drawers for stationery, sewing material, hobby material etc.
  1. In the kitchen device a system such that the older groceries get utilized first.
  1. Keep a medicine cabinet (preferably inaccessible to children) and keep checking it regularly for medicine that has expired and throw away the expired medicines.
  1. Make a schedule for servicing your appliances and mark it in your calendar. This will give your appliances a long life and may prevent any unwanted accidents.
  1. Keep extra keys in handy places and marked. Like if you have children you need to ensure that they do not accidently lock themselves in the bedroom so keep the bedroom keys out of the bedroom but in a handy place and mark the keys correctly so that even if you are not at home you can instruct the person correctly as to which key to use and where it is kept.
  1. File away your family’s prescriptions doctor’s appointments either in a big box fie with separators or in individual files.
  1. If you are a home maker make a time table for the maid to divide the tasks that need to be done not so regularly so that when she has more time from the regular tasks she can finish these in the same time without being too stressed for time. This way you can get more work done on a regular basis without stressing either of you and without the maid feeling she is putting in more work hours.
  1. For your own tasks make a schedule. If you have spring cleaning to be done do not do everything in one day. Plan to do it over a week or a month. Do one room at a time. This will not tire you out totally.
  1. A lot of women have several purses, keep a purse/ handbag with all the things required when you go to the bank so that when you have to go to the bank pick that handbag and go, this way you do not change the purse and forget that one important cheque book. Also make multiple sets of your home keys and put one in each purse / handbag so that you are never locked out of your home. Also keep a minimum amount in cash required to get back home from the farthest point you would go so that you are never left stranded.
  1. Also learn to divide your purse in an essentials and non-essentials area. Keep the wallet, phone, keys and cheque books etc. in a designated area and keep your other frivolous knick knacks and makeup in a separate area (makeup preferably in a small pouch to avoid stains from spillage).
  1. All women have gold ornaments some we inherit and others are bought for their flaunt and invest value. Invest in a small weighing machine (you get the portable once for as low as one thousand rupees). Weigh all your ornaments individually. Better still photograph all the ornaments individually, using a simple software or while photographing them put the weight and any other comments on a paper and photograph along with the ornament. You will never get cheated by any goldsmith over the weight ever.
  1. Taking it further catalogue (in an excel sheet) what you store at home and what you keep in the locker. This way there is no ambiguity ever and no confusion as to where your precious item are.
  1. Now you will question me on how safe it is to store all this important data on your computer. First learn to organize your system too. Do not pile everything onto the desktop. Make separate folders for personal pictures, entertainment which will share with everyone and very very private stuff. Keep important information in not so obviously marked folders, learn to devise an identification system for folders which only you need to access and then there is the hide button.
  1. Last but not the least instruct your children on following these protocols so that they grow up organized and learn the value of an organized space early on in life.

These simple everyday things have helped me a lot and saved lot of time and energy. Please tell me if you found it useful too. Also feel free to leave comments on areas I might have missed.

People have called him hard working, intelligent, simple yet out of the box thinker, attentive, detailed, committed, focused, consistent and varied other things.

But for me he was that first guy on the job who kicked my ass and then held me when I stumbled. It was the quickest I learnt the discipline he puts in his work and his no-nonsense attitude totally bowled me over.

We worked together for a couple of years till I took a pregnant pause (literally) and later he moved on too. But we remain friends till date.

His interest in photography was latent while we were working together but I just saw the interest grow into a passion and he continued to better it at every click.

He grew up as a normal middle class kid in Barasat, near Calcutta, West Bengal, India and is today Creative Group Head, McCann World Group, New Delhi.

He is a self-taught photographer and his photography is influenced by three world renowned photographers: Ansal Adams, Steve McCurry and Raghu Rai.

He likes to photograph landscapes, people, monuments and candid moments.

He likes to respect heritage by glorifying historical monuments through his photography.

I have also seen him grow as a person and though he has a small tight circle of friends the circle is quite a fan following. Besides being a creative personality he is a quiet and extremely sensitive person. His shyness may come across as stand offish but for those who know him closely he is a genuine and helpful friend whom you can always depend on.

The picture he took of my husband and son is one of my most favorite and tells you so much about how he knows what emotions and moments to capture.

Here’s a glimpse of his work and world.

You can get in touch with him on atanu.dev@gmail.com if you want a personal portfolio done.

The sun is out and the summer heat is at it’s sizzling best.

Staying indoors is just not a choice for some of us but ouch the skin is going to get all tanned and that is not what some of us would like (especially when you are ultra sensitive to the sun)

So I did try a couple of sunscreens but most of them were so oily that they would only aggravate my excessive sweating.

Then I was in Chennai with humidity at it’s highest and wanted a sunscreen really bad.

The medical store guy took one look at my face and just recommended me this

Bello Photostable Sunscreen Gel

It contains all photo-stable ingredients and ensures SPF 40 and UVA protection.

The Benefits

  • Protects from tanning and sun burns with SPF 40
  • Delays premature ageing
  • Maintains original skin colour & texture
  • pH matches acidic skin mantle
  • Enriched with Antioxidants and Vitamin E
  • Broad Spectrum
  • Non Comedogenic
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Water & Sweat Resistant
  • Non Greasy
  • Fragrance Free

How to Use:

  • Apply evenly on face, neck and exposed areas of skin
  • Use 20-30 minutes prior to sun exposure
  • Re-apply as required, especially after swimming, sweating

And I have not turned towards another sunscreen last two summers.

Tag Heuer already had scored a soccer-sponsorship hat trick by backing America’s Major League Soccer, Germany’s Bundesliga, and the Chinese Football Association Super League. It just got bigger by being the official timekeeper for England’s Premier League.

Premier League is perhaps the most-watched soccer league in the world.

The new partnership was announced on Tuesday 26 April, 2016 at simultaneous events held in Hong Kong and London.

In Hong Kong, Jean Claude Biver, chief executive officer of TAG Heuer, was joined by Premier League legend Peter Schmeichel to announce the new partnership at an event attended by media from across Asia.

I realized all my worst nightmares of aging skin, wrinkles and lose of radiance were soon taking the shape of reality.

I tried various regenerative creams and some expensive facials. The effects were fleeting. My skin started becoming flaky even in summer and the dryness would just not go away.

I was careful trying out new products because my skin would react with immediate fury by becoming red and breaking out.

I had been wanting to try out Clarins for quite some time now but was not very sure how my dear skin would behave.

But on my way back from Paris I just thought I would take the leap of faith.

At Abu Dhabi Duty Free I checked the various products and finally found a combi pack of a serum and cream.

I had researched a bit about the product online and was clear about what I wanted.

So I reached out and picked the products I wanted.

  1. HydraQuenchIntensive Serum Bi-Phase (The intensive hydration product for very dehydrated skin)

  2. HydraQuench Cream – Normal to Dry Skin

Clarins HydraQuench Bi-Phase Serum is a comforting formula that restores the balance. This re-formulated serum has a lighter texture and offers longer lasting hydration When your skin is feeling dry, parched and tight, this SOS treatment rescues and repairs.

The cream is a super skin quenching  that leaves skin feeling light, fresh and soft. The ultra-moisturizing blend infuses skin with long-lasting hydration so that skin looks smoother, supple and more radiant. The HydraQuench cream is effective irregardless of temperature and climate variations, and protects against environmental aggressors and pollution.Use the serum after your bath (for better results use it at night as well). A few drops will suffice. Gently dab it on your face and let your skin soak it in. Follow it by applying the cream.

Simply apply this versatile and easily absorbed cream every morning after cleansing, waiting for a few minutes before applying make-up. The moisturizing cream can also be used before bed to soften and quench skin overnight.

Not to mention the freebies I got (they work very well too ) Mmmm the luxury of french cosmetics………..

I saw the results in just a few applications, would you tell me if this works for you too?

Vain or not everyone of us has this desire to see ourselves as the wold sees us.

“What is it that people see in me?” It is a question that has crossed our minds at least once in our lifetime or more importantly “How do they see me?”

Well I put my demons to rest on that one at a recent trip. It is but a well known fact that travel sets us free and I shed my inhibitions on this one.

So I stopped just admiring at the artistry of this quaint village and succumbed to getting a portrait.

I enjoyed all the attention to detail the artist had an eye for and admired his imaginative concept too.

The cherry on the cake of course was when he compared me to ‘Indira Gandhi’ when he found out about my origins.

And needless to say the lotus in my hair is symbolic to his imagination of my homeland.

The artist who did my portrait is Petrovic can be reached at petrovic.artist@gmail.com.

The other artist who did my son’s pencil sketch is Blanc and can be reached at artdeblanc@gmail.com

If you are a watch-lover you most probably know about Basel World and if you are a novice and have a passion for watches and jewelry you should make it your business to know what is the most important marketplace.

It is a haven for people looking for new trends in the watch and jewelry industry.

A one of its kind show that year after year has served as a platform for various watch and jewelry brands to showcase their upcoming releases.

I was lucky to visit the show this year.

Though I was just a casual visitor what I saw left me yearning for more. Here are a few clicks (a few because I was mostly busy admiring the venue and the display and the vast array of brands)
